Case Study:
Leading Change in the AI Era

Otti conducted a workshop titled “Leading Change in the AI Era” for the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) on 28th November and 5th December, 2024.

 

The primary objective of this learning solution was to empower leaders to be changemakers in driving AI transformation to harness Human-AI Synergy for breakthrough productivity, innovation and growth. This case study investigates the initiative’s background, implementation, outcomes, and assessment of its overall impact and effectiveness.

Our Leaders Steer The Wheel of The AI Revolution

Malaysia stands at a critical crossroads in its economic development. As Artificial Intelligence transforms global markets, many of our organisations remain unprepared for this fundamental shift. The gap between AI's vast potential and our implementation capabilities threatens Malaysia's competitive position, with Digital AI leadership & strategy emerging as the decisive factor between success and failure.

With the private sector contributing 85% to Malaysia's GDP, the ability of our business leaders to successfully navigate digital disruption directly determines our nation's economic trajectory and global standing. This reality becomes more urgent when considering research from McKinsey finds that up to 70% of employee work activities can be automated or augmented by AI, resulting in revenue increase and cost savings.¹ Yet without strategic intervention, Malaysian businesses risk joining the concerning 70% of global digital transformations that fail to deliver their promised results.²

Equipping Our Leaders to Champion Innovation & Change

To address this challenge, The Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) engaged Otti to conduct a masterclass titled “Leading Change in the AI Era”. The primary objectives of the workshop were to:

Develop AI Leadership Readiness: Cultivate an AI leadership mindset to prepare for leading AI era transformations, focusing on the 5 Areas of AI Leadership.

Strategic Direction from AI Insights:

Translate insights on digital and AI megatrends into strategic direction, including the creation of an AI Vision.

Human-AI Synergy Roadmap:

Develop an actionable Human-AI Synergy Roadmap for AI transformation, enabling re-strategising of core capabilities, key processes, and workforce to leverage AI technologies and expand human potential.

Brain-Based Change Leadership:

Lead effective change initiatives through a brain-based understanding of how to align motivation and address resistance to change.

Two cohorts: A total of 54 industry leaders from the private sector were trained in person at Otti’s training campus. Leaders represented diverse industries ranging from technology to marketing.

Leaders were guided through:

By the program’s conclusion, participants had developed actionable implementation plans with clear metrics, identified high-value AI opportunities within their organisations, and gained deeper confidence in the leadership capabilities required for driving AI-powered change.

Agile Leadership as the Path Forward

Agile Leadership Index (ALI) is a self-assessment tool designed to measure the key leadership competencies essential for driving organisational agility and digital agility. It is designed in alignment with the IMD World Competitiveness Index ³ criterion of Business Efficiency, specifically focusing on Productivity and Efficiency [3.1], Labour Market [3.2], Management Practices [3.4], and Attitudes & Values [3.5].

The workshop demonstrated significant positive impacts across all measures of the Agile Leadership Index. Participants exhibited the most substantial growth in the following areas:

These results validate the effectiveness of the masterclass in equipping leaders with the skills, mindset, and strategic frameworks needed to navigate digital transformation and leverage AI for competitive advantage.
